landmines/cluster munitions | Asia | Middle East

Alexandra Hiniker has led humanitarian disarmament initiatives in some of the world’s most bombed and mined countries, first with the United Nations in Cambodia, and then with the Cluster Munition Coalition in Laos, followed by Lebanon. She also established the PAX office in New York and served as the Representative to the United Nations, focusing on humanitarian disarmament and the protection of civilians in Syria, Iraq, and South Sudan. Additionally, she directed New York City's Sustainable Development Goals program at the Mayor's Office for International Affairs, and currently oversees Carnegie Mellon University's Sustainability Initiative. For more than a decade, she supported Legacies of War, most recently chairing the Board of Directors.

Hiniker can speak about policies on landmines and cluster munitions, drawing from her experience in affected countries as well as her time as an advocate at the United Nations. She can also reflect on the roles of cities and universities in addressing these global challenges. She earned a B.A. from the University of Chicago, an M.A. from Uniwersytet Jagielloński in Kraków, Poland, and an M.S. in Urban Policy and Leadership from Hunter College in New York City. She also studied at Sciences Po-Paris.
