About
The Forum is a network of civil society experts and a point of contact for strengthening public efforts to address the humanitarian, economic and other implications of arms transfers, security assistance, and weapons use. The Forum provides a venue for bringing its community's wide-ranging expertise together to amplify and strengthen its work, while also offering government and media members a one-stop resource for the latest information, analysis, and best contacts. Forum-listed experts are located around the world and work on diverse topics including human rights, development, arms control, humanitarian disarmament, cybersecurity, arms and the environment, anti-corruption, and related fields.
The Forum on the Arms Trade is a currently directed by Jeff Abramson. The Board of Directors is:
In September 2023, the Forum adopt a 2023-2025 strategic plan. In October 2024, the Forum will begin receiving funds as an independent non-profit, after having earlier been a fiscally sponsored project of the Center for International Policy (2023-2024) and the Arms Control Association (earlier). The Forum has the following institutional partners (see TOR): Amassuru (Network of Women in Security and Defense in Latin America and the Caribbean); Center for International Policy; Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM) in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland; Gender Equality Network for Small Arms Control (GENSAC); PRISME (Pathways to Renewed and Inclusive Security in the Middle East), Security in Context; SEHLAC (Seguridad Humana en Latinoaméerica y el Caribe - Human Security in Latin America and the Caribbean);Shadow World Investigations; and Women for Weapons Trade Transparency (W2T2).
Philanthropic support is currently provided by:
Founded in 2015, the Forum partners to host an array of public events as well as an informal monthly conventional discussion series where experts share their work in off-the-record setting—an opportunity for ongoing professional development. Related, the Forum maintains a closed listserv for its members and interested individuals to communicate and discuss arms trade-related issues in the United States (based in Washington DC), as well as a global list for the experts publicly identified on the website.
The Forum maintains a media list, contacting existing and new reporters on arms trade topics to make them aware of the community of experts listed by the Forum, as well as to direct media inquiries to relevant experts. The Forum at times organizes briefings and individual meetings for Congressional members/staff and administration officials on topics as they become timely.
Inclusion on the Forum on the Arms Trade expert list does not indicate agreement with or endorsement of the opinions of others. Institutional affiliation is indicated for identification purposes only.
