Arms Trade Treaty
Yang’s position on this issue is unknown. However, he has stated that U.S. companies should not trade in harmful goods and services with human rights violators.
Response to Amnesty International questionnaire, June 2019
"We need to prevent all US companies from working with governments or organizations that are actively involved in the persecution of any religious or ethnic group, especially those that are providing technologies that can be used to carry out this persecution."
Arms Sales to Saudi Coalition
Yang explicitly supports ending arms sales and military support to the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen.
Response to Council on Foreign Relations questionnaire, August 9, 2019.
“First off, the United States should be providing no aid to Saudi Arabia in its assault on Yemen. It’s creating a humanitarian crisis that ranks amongst the worst of all time. We should end all support for this situation - logistics, arms sales, refueling efforts, intelligence.”
Response to Amnesty International questionnaire, June 2019
“The situation in Yemen is heartbreaking, and the US should absolutely end its involvement in the conflict. Outside of ending sales of arms to the countries exacerbating this crisis, we also need to end other support. Intelligence, refueling, and training operations should all end immediately. Saudi Arabia currently assumes our support; we need to show them that we expect our allies to respect human rights and not commit war crimes.”
Firearms Export Oversight
Yang’s position on this issue is unknown. He supports banning assault-style weapons domestically, but has not directly addressed broader export oversight rules.
Campaign website, 2019
"Create a clear definition of “assault weapon”, and prevent their manufacture and sale."
Mine Ban Treaty
Yang’s position on this issue is unknown. Alex Ward (Vox) did contact the campaign but reported as of February 6 that Yang’s campaign had not responded.
