Weapons

  • Weapons vary not only in type, quantity, and quality, but also in the means and mechanisms of controlling their trade and use-- creating challenges for those who seek responsible arms trade. Some weapons are ubiquitous and frequently found in conflict areas, such as small arms and light weapons (SALW). Other weapons have been deemed indiscriminate by nature with their new use widely condemned, such as antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions. Technological development for still others, such as drones, has led to deployment of new weapons in more places and for more purposes, as many countries compete globally or regionally to field the most sophisticated weaponry.  (Click links to jump directly to specific topics.)
