Nils Duquet is a director ad interim at the Flemish Peace Institute, an independent research institute dedicated to peace research and hosted by the Flemish Parliament (Belgium).
He has been working at the Flemish Peace Institute since 2006 and has authored more than 50 policy-oriented and academic publications on topics such as illicit firearms trafficking, gun violence, terrorist access to illicit weapons markets, domestic gun policies and arms export controls in Europe.
Nils is the research coordinator of Project DIVERT (https://vlaamsvredesinstituut.eu/en/divert/) an international research project on the diversion of firearms and ammunition from the legal into the illegal market in the European Union. He also coordinated the research activities of Project SAFTE (https://www.flemishpeaceinstitute.eu/safte/index.html), an international comparative study on terrorist access to illicit gun markets in Europe. As a research consultant he has has recently worked on UNIDIR and UNODC projects on illicit firearms trafficking in Europe and terrorist access to weapons.
He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and in Sociology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
