Dr. Jennifer L. Erickson is an associate professor of Political Science and International Studies at Boston College. Her research interests include international security and arms control, conventional weapons (including small arms and light weapons) and nuclear weapons, sanctions and arms embargoes, new weapons technology, and the laws and norms of war.
Her book Dangerous Trade: Conventional Arms Exports, Human Rights, and International Reputation is the winner of the APSA Foreign Policy Section's 2017 Best Book Award, and her articles have been published in Review of International Studies, European Journal of International Relations, Journal of Peace Research, Political Science Quarterly, and International Studies Perspectives. She is also the author of the Arms Control chapter in the 2018 Oxford Handbook of International Security. Her new book project, Norms at War, investigates the development of regulations around new defense technologies.
Currently, Dr. Erickson is the managing editor at the H-Diplo Robert Jervis International Security Studies Forum (RJISSF) and a research affiliate at MIT's Security Studies Program. Previously, she has been a faculty fellow at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, a postdoctoral fellow at Dartmouth College's Dickey Center for International Understanding, a research fellow at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) and the Wissenchaftszentrum (WZB) in Berlin, and a faculty affiliate at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University. She has also recently completed an extended term as an Associate Editor at the journal Security Studies and elected terms on the governing boards of the International Security section of the American Political Science Association and the International Security Studies section of the International Studies Association.
Dr. Erickson has a B.A. in Political Science from St. Olaf College and a Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University.
