The Forum on the Arms Trade is seeking a full-time program officer to continue to strengthen and grow awareness of and capabilities of its community of listed experts. Working with the Forum’s director, the person in this position will have significant responsibility supporting Forum programs, events, and outreach across an array of platforms. This position is virtual with meetings and communications generally occurring aligned to a U.S. East coast schedule.

The Forum on the Arms Trade, founded in 2015, is a global network of civil society experts and a point of contact for strengthening public efforts to address the humanitarian, economic and other implications of arms transfers, security assistance, and weapons use. This position would be the second full-time position serving the Forum – a U.S. nonprofit organization. 

CORE POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES


Program Support
  • Coordinate emerging expert program (English, and Spanish if possible)   
  • Assist with event planning
  • Liaise with Forum-listed experts to keep profiles current, and maintain internal listservs and discussions
  • Development and/or maintenance of some resource pages, based on interest and knowledge
  • Support broader global humanitarian disarmament efforts - scope to be determined

Media and Communications
  • Produce (or revamp) “The Week in Arms Trade Publications” newsletter
  • Assist with social media efforts – currently Bluesky-based, with some use of LinkedIn (and rarely Facebook and Instagram)
  • Coordinate process to revamp experts section of website to be more like this (or similar) – possible complete overhaul of website
  • Possible assistance with fundraising, depending on experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communications and networking skills
    • Experience building and communicating within a network
    • Familiarity with electronic newsletters
    • Familiarity, or ability to quickly learn, basic website management
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in international relations, media, communications, or other relevant course of study
  • Strong computer skills, including with Google documents
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to take initiative
  • English-language fluency
  • Spanish-language fluency a plus
  • Event support experience a plus, in particular on-line events
  • Arms trade subject matter experience a definite plus, but not required

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The salary will be between $55,000 and $65,000 base salary commensurate with experience. Benefits can include employer-provided health coverage; contribution to an individual retirement account; paid vacation, and family and sick leave. Applicants for this full-time position (with benefits) must be eligible to work in the United States.

​This is a full-time position for the remainder of calendar year 2026. Continuance beyond that period will be contingent on funds that have yet to be raised, and performance.
