Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) | Latin America | small arms and light weapons (SALW) | harm to civilians
Ivan Marques is the Chairperson of Control Arms coalition Board and an independent consultant working on disarmament processes, small arms and light weapons (SALW), citizen security, and human rights. He has worked for the Brazilian federal government in many positions, including the Human Rights Ministry and the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs on the President's office. During the past five years, Marques was the Executive Director of Sou da Paz Institute, an NGO based in Sao Paulo. In recognition of his contribution to the improvement of Brazilian public security and disarmament efforts, he was awarded the National Order of the Merit by the President of Brazil in 2018.
Marques holds a bachelor's degree in law, a Master's degree (MSc) in International Affairs from the University of Campinas, Brazil, and another Master's degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a member and supporter of many civil society initiatives such as IANSA, Control Arms, and the Stop the Killer Robots Campaign, among others.
