Ivan Marques is the managing director of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA). He was the Chairperson of Control Arms coalition Board (2019-2022) and a UN consultant working on small arms and light weapons (SALW), citizen security, and human rights. He has worked in many positions for the Brazilian federal government, including the Human Rights Ministry and the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs in the President's office. For five years, Marques was the Executive Director of Sou da Paz Institute, an NGO based in Sao Paulo. In recognition of his contribution to the improvement of Brazilian public security and disarmament efforts, he was awarded the National Order of the Merit by the President of Brazil in 2018.
Marques holds a bachelor's degree in law, a Master's degree (MSc) in International Affairs from the University of Campinas, Brazil, and another Master's degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
