Alexandra Kuimova is a researcher with the SIPRI Arms Transfers Programme. Her areas of research include the monitoring of arms transfers, military spending and arms industry, foreign and defence policies, with particular focus on the Middle East and North Africa, Russia and Eastern Europe. At SIPRI, Kuimova has contributed to research on the role of arms flows in fueling armed conflict, the risks entailed by the emergence of new suppliers in the global arms trade, and on transparency in military expenditure. She also actively contributes to the Institute’s activities aimed at supporting and accelerating progress on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets. Prior to joining SIPRI, Kuimova was an Intern in the Department of New Challenges and Threats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation where she prepared a background report on terrorist movements in the MENA region. She also completed internships at Université Abdelmalek Essaâdi in Morocco and Cairo University in Egypt.
